Transfer
of Wealth in Indiana
A 1999
study conducted by Boston College researchers, Millionaires
and the Millenium, rocked the philanthropic world
when it concluded that in the period from 1998 to 2052, a
total of $41 trillion would be passed down among generations
in the United States.
In 2005, Indiana Grantmakers Alliance commissioned
an analysis of the transfer of wealth in Indiana, performed
by the Community Assistance Initiative, an affiliated fund
within the Nebraska Community Foundation.
Previously, the Nebraska
Community Foundation completed analyses of both the magnitude
and peak of the transfer of wealth for each of Nebraska’s
93 counties, their methodology based on the groundbreaking
Boston College study. Based on this work, the Nebraska Community
Foundation is heralded as a national model for its innovative
efforts on empowering community leadership and utilizing the
estimated intergenerational transfer of wealth to craft community
endowment building strategies.
We are pleased to bring this important work
to Indiana community foundations. For access to the full Transfer
of Wealth report, please contact
your local community foundation.
